![]() ![]() Design contests This cheeky and fun business card design was chosen as winner in a contest for a communications shop. Sites like Vistaprint, Moo, and YouPrint offer this kind of option. Most templates let you select certain generic icon and font options and upload images or photos, so you can get a useable card with some personalization. Other templates allow you to create your design to be printed out by a service. Some templates allow you to print the design yourself on a printer-but the results generally look like you did that, so be careful with this option. You’ll pay up to $50 for using a template and you’ll need to take into account additional costs for printing your design, which depend on the printing options you choose (more on that later). This option is usually the cheapest way to get a business card design done, but the result will likely be on the generic side. If you have a background in design and you’re great with design tools, the choice is easy if you’re not, you’re probably going to end up using a template. ![]() The lowest cost options include designing a card yourself using tools like Illustrator and online template services you can use to design a basic card and get them printed out. If you’re like most small businesses or startups, you’re aiming to balance your need for a high-quality design with your need to stay within a budget. The cost of a great business card design ranges from $0 to thousands of dollars. For now, let’s talk about why the cost of business cards can vary so much.
![]() ![]() My parents hid under the floorboards because the Maoists were coming for them as well. ![]() This was the single biggest battle, and it was fought right here. When the Nepal army retaliated, there were several hundred dead-casualties from the Maoist and Nepali armies, as well as police officers. One night, the Maoist rebels shot 36 government officials-including the chief district officer-and killed them. The biggest battle between the Maoist and Nepali armied happened in Salleri, which is only a 15-minute walk from the Happy House. But he was part of the Congress Party-which is the non-Communist party now-so when the Maoists started invading, my family was everything that the Maoist were against. My father, following his parents at the time, was the mayor of the region and starting his political career. The house was named the Happy House and my family had been living here until the late 1990s when the Civil War started in Nepal. So, Monzino built this house and started living there, and it was much later, in the 1970s, when Sir Edmund Hillary was starting to be involved with the local hospital, that he came to Phaplu and saw the house and started living here as well. The gambling table and the leather sofas were part of his furniture set that made it up to Everest Base Camp. He added the rooms, and more or less funded the whole thing. When he came here to visit, he fell in love with Phaplu and told my father: “When I finish my expedition, I’m going to come back here and build a house.”īut he didn’t want just any house-he said to my grandfather, “You’re getting a serious upgrade.” And so, that’s what he did. Monzino had 6,000 people on his team of porters and guides, and my father was one of them. The Italian Count Guido Monzino was leading an Everest expedition and, during one of his rest days in Junbesi, he walked up to Phaplu. How did this magnificent structure come to be?īefore it became known as the Happy House-or this kind of grander structure-we had a family home here in Phaplu. And that's how their ethnic group came to be: They started living here and slowly started dispersing around the mountains of Nepal-mainly Eastern Nepal.Īng Tshering Beyulux Experiences Your family home, The Happy House, has an equally impressive legacy in Nepal-built by one Everest explorer (Count Guide Monzino) and lived in by another (Sir Edmund Hillary). And that’s how the Sherpa started living here-and the reason I said Sherpa was because when the first Tibetans came to Nepal they identified themselves as Sherpa people of the East. So, Nyingma people, being followers of the Guru Rinpoche, came and identified Junbesi as one of the beyu and settled there. If you look at the term’s description, it means sacred places that would identify themselves when the world got too corrupt for spiritual practice. They came to Junbesi because Guru Rinpoche traveled from Swat Valley to Tibet and identified several locations as ‘beyu’, which means Shangri-La on earth. The Nyingma people were mainly from Eastern Tibet-an area called Kham-and many of them escaped to this side of the Himalayas, settling in a village called Junbesi. Obviously, the Gelugs won because they had Mongol support. The Dalai Lama is a Mongol title, and Dalai is a Mongol world which means ‘ocean of wisdom.’ But before they could install the Dalai Lama as the political and the spiritual head of Tibet, there was a big war between the Nyingma and the Gelug. But they also wanted to be part of Tibetan Buddhism. Nyingma was the very first school but then, much later, when the Mongols in the nearby region of High Asia were coming into power and becoming interested in Buddhism, they invaded and attacked Tibet. And now, in Tibet, there are four main Buddhist sects: Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, and Gelug (of which the Dalai Lama is the head). So, let's go back to the 16th century, or even earlier-to the 8th century, when Guru Rinpoche (also known as Padmasambhava) brought Buddhism into Tibet and formed a school called Nyingma. ![]() ![]() ![]() I would too, as Rosemary’s Baby is one of the all-time great horror movies. After seeing Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and Roman Polanski (Rafal Zawierucha) arrive, Rick laments that the director of Rosemary’s Baby (1968) lives next door. ![]() Rick’s car is a Cadillac Coupe, the same model in fact that Vic Vega drives in Reservor Dogs (1992). It is based on a collection of sci-fi short stories written by Ray Bradbury. As they are pulling into Rick’s driveway, the radio has an ad for Jack Smight’s 1969 adaptation of The Illustrated Man, an eerie tale of a man whose tattoos come alive, each with a story of their own. Cielo Drive is of course the infamous street where… well, you know what happened. The best villains on that series have endured in pop culture 50 years on. He also laughs at Rick starring on Batman, the Adam West series that ran from 1966 to ’69, but that ain’t no joke. That was of course the spymania show that rode on 007’s coattails from ’64 to ’68 (it is also responsible for Archer and Kingsman’s obsession with spy agencies hiding in clothing stores/dry cleaners). Marvin jokes if Rick isn’t careful he’ll be playing the heavy who loses the fight of the week on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. He would go on to gladly put on the white hat for Leone in 1968’s Once Upon a Time in the West, which similarly reinvigorated The Magnificent Seven actor’s career. It ultimately led to Eastwood being a movie star by the time he and Leone completed what became “The Dollars Trilogy.” That role was originally offered to Charles Bronson, another TV actor who turned up his nose at the idea of doing an Italian Western. Clint went to Italy to star in Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars (1964) when he was primarily an unhappy TV star on the Western Rawhide (1959-1965). Rick, however, resists the opportunity, clearly not learning the lessons of Eastwood. As a struggling TV actor this would let him be the lead of a movie. Speaking of Eastwood, Marvin is trying to lure Rick into Spaghetti Westerns. When Rick meets Al Pacino’s Marvin Schwarz, the latter compliments Rick on a film called, I believe, “14 Fists of McClusky.” While such a title evokes The Guns of Navarone (1961) in my head, the snippet of movie we see is most decidedly inspired by Where Eagles Dare (1968), a British production that for 138 minutes was a glorified “Killin’ Nazis” adventure starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood… Before becoming a movie star, she led ABC’s short-lived Pan Am, a ’60s-based slice of network nostalgia in 2011. While Pan Am was the premiere airline of 1960s America–much to Howard Hughes’ chagrin, which Leonardo DiCaprio undoubtedly has thoughts about–one wonders if this is a wink to Robbie’s own early TV work. During the opening credits, we see Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) getting her groove on during a Pan Am flight. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs (1992) and Budd in Kill Bill (2003, ’04). On Bounty Law, we also see Michael Madsen, who is of course a mainstay of Quentin Tarantino movies after playing Mr. Thank you to commenter Cheryl Long Shultz bringing this series to our attention. ![]() This seems apt given how much of Rick Dalton’s career mirrors McQueen, from missing Great Escape to doing “Nebraska Jim” (more on that below). There is also a strongly likelihood that Bounty Law is based on Wanted: Dead or Alive, a 1958 TV series about a bounty hunter starring Steve McQueen. It also made a star of James Garner, who’d go on to appear in The Great Escape (1963), but more on that later. Most famous of such would be Gunsmoke, which premiered in 1955, but given the dynamic of Rick playing a lawman who goes town to town, it better resembles Maverick, which ran from 1957 to 1962 and focused on two gamblers who got in scrapes in different towns each week. The series itself is a fictitious creation, however it is obviously based on a variety of 1950s and ‘60s shows. The film opens on Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) doing an interview for a late 1950s television series named Bounty Law. So without further ado, ramblers, let’s get rambling. We are sure there is more that we missed and are happy to take any suggestions for nods we overlooked. So below we have compiled just a sampling of the references and easter eggs we caught on now two viewings of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Still, cast all that aside, and what remains is a heartfelt love letter to 1960s Hollywood and all the groovy things we’ve lost from that time of flower power, straight hair, and every exec in LA suddenly wearing a leather jacket and growing a moustache. ![]() ![]() It's going to be a rather fun experience, certainly more exciting than grinding those Battle Trophies forever, and all in all it's a good way to give this game some replay value even after hundreds of hours spent farming and grinding. The goal of this page is to provide very basic guidelines to speedrun through the game as quickly as possible on Chaos (of course this will work fine on Universe difficulty too). For your information, on Earth the enemies have 0.7x HP and 0.8x ATK/INT/GRD (normal Rush Gauge rate). Considering Galaxy as the "normal" difficulty, the enemies on Universe have stats 1.3x times higher (stats include HP, ATK, INT, GRD) and a Rush Gauge that goes up 1.5x times faster the enemies on Chaos have stats 1.7x times higher and a Rush Gauge that goes up 2x times faster. The real problem with Chaos difficulty is that you can't see the enemy's target icon (the flashing yellow/red or just red target around it), and therefore Blindsiding is a bit more complicated because you have to "feel" when it's time to pull off the move. ![]() ![]() ![]() Coming, I am told, are brunch and breakfast as the staff gets more fully up to steam in their grand new abode. Just as meticulously prepared are its accompaniments: baked asparagus with a tint of lemon and rosemary garlic potatoes, skinned chunks that are lightly hash browned to perfection.Īs much as I want to try other things on the menu, going to Juliet and not having the roast chicken would seem like a culinary crime. It comes with an au jus that’s almost not needed. The plump serving of breast is cut into thick strips of tender, white meat that is juicy and flavorful and evenly cooked, with no dried-out edges or bland, tasteless centers. Juliet’s roast chicken is in that higher orbit: The skin is crisp, but not fatty or greasy. It’s funny that there are a lot of foods out there – omelets, roast chicken, French onion soup and even burgers – that are easy to do but so hard to do exceptionally. But the thing to have at Juliet is the roast chicken, which is simple and oh so good. There are pastas (tagliatelle and veggies, and spaghetti with a Niçoise tomato sauce) and larger plates, including the requisite salade Niçoise and steak frites, chicken Milanesa (fried chicken thigh) and a French spin on a burger. Juliet has relocated with a new look in Union Square. ![]() I’d call it the best charcuterie offering I’ve had in recent memory. It’s not as filling as you might think, and one of those things you consider a second order of. ![]() Among smaller plates there are some interesting choices, such as radishes and butter, a Niçoise chickpea crepe and brandade croquettes (salt cod and potato, yum!), and I can testify to the delights of the super-lean Jamón Serrano that comes in a heaping pile. (Think chowder.) Putting a funky cap on the menu are the aiolis – essentially charcuterie, fish, or a raw and pickled veggie board with that garlicky dipping sauce as a garnish. Then there’s a mussels and frites section where you can get your sloppy fun of mollusks and french fries in various styles, including marinara, garlic and wine or with a New England spin. In one column you have French omelets (with fines herbs, a daily chef’s special and even a tuna Niçoise spin). The winning menu at Juliet is funky, eclectic and clearly influenced by the style and flavors of Nice on the French Riviera. It’s breathtaking, with a dining bar that’s open yet intimate and plugged into the hive of activity. Before, there was a homey, cafe-style enclave with quaint, wooden tables and an open kitchen at the center now you walk into a much bigger space of spare, white decor with Parisian and Mediterranean accents. The move is practically next door, but what a difference a digit or two in address makes – though it’s really a whole new vision by owners Josh Lewin and Katrina Jazayeri. It’s only been a few weeks since the nouvelle bistro Juliet settled into its new, upscale digs on Washington Street in Union Square. The food was good, but a little bit higher than I would like, the experience was great nonetheless, it was entertaining to watch the chefs prepare everything in front of you!
